Application of High-Pressure Pumps in the Oilfield Sector

In oilfield operations, high-pressure pumps are critical equipment, primarily categorized into two types: plunger pumps and centrifugal pumps.

Plunger pumps are the absolute mainstay in ultra-high-pressure applications, with five-cylinder plunger pumps in particular becoming the core of modern fracturing and cementing operations. They can operate under extreme pressures exceeding 100 MPa with precisely controllable displacement. Compared to traditional triplex pumps, they generate significantly lower output pressure pulsation, reducing stress on manifolds. Their compact design and high power density make them well-suited for large fracturing trucks and electric drive pump sets.

Multistage centrifugal pumps are suitable for applications requiring high flow rates and continuous, steady delivery, such as oilfield water injection stations and pipeline transportation, typically operating at pressures between 10-30 MPa. They run smoothly and are relatively simple to maintain.

The current development trends emphasize high power, intelligence, and electrification. The fluid end incorporates wear-resistant technologies like ceramic coatings to enhance service life, while sensors enable real-time condition monitoring and fault warning. Domestic manufacturers, such as Jereh and Sany, have achieved internationally advanced levels in the field of electric drive fracturing pumps.
